This is not direct financial advice, nor should it be taken as such. For inquiries related to student finance and funding contact your university’s relevant student funding service
This guide is specifically aimed for getting the grant from Student Finance Wales (SFW), however, it parts can be useful for Student Finance England (SFE). Student Finance Wales stipulates that any student can claim reasonable costs for travel if you are a “healthcare student on placement in the UK”.
This guide has been created solely based on personal and anecdotal experience and will be updated to reflect new information and guidance. It should not be taken as financial advice or as any government/official advice for funding, rather a guide for how to make your applications.
SFW makes it difficult and bothersome to claim back money for your travel (probably on purpose), so you will have to be relatively determined to properly collect the evidence and make your claims appropriately.
SFW also does not provide funding in advance, meaning you will have to front all the money for your travel, (and thus be willing to part with it if your application is rejected). Applications should be made at the end of the year after your placements.
